 Yalova marched into the last eight of London FA’s County Cup with a 3-1 victory over last season’s finalists Lord Stanley.
After two postponements, due to adverse weather conditions, the Fifth Round tie finally took place at the revised venue of Bullsmoor Lane. Lord Stanley started the stronger and took the lead inside 15 minutes following a Yellow Ones’ defensive mix up. This spurred on the TCFF representatives and on the half-hour mark the scores were level. Ahmet Topal did well to control a long pass and play in his strike partner Ahmet Cihanyandi who made no mistake from 15 yards out. Goalkeeper Ahmet Adalier pulled off a couple of fine saves as did his opposite number to ensure neither team took the lead before the break.
Yalova continued their momentum into the second half, coming close three times inside a minute of the restart. However, they got their noses in front in the 61st minute, when Cihanyandi was once through on goal and yet again he beat the keeper with a fierce drive from just inside the penalty area. When the clock ticked towards 70 minutes, Corey Whitely sealed victory with a right foot shot low into the corner to send Yalova into the quarter-finals.
The match may have been over as a contest but there was still drama before the final whistle with the referee brandishing THREE red cards. Substitute Hasan Djemal was aggressively kicked in the head by a frustrated ‘Peter Crouch’ lookalike who received a straight red card for his troubles. Following the resulting melee, Yalova’s Ibrahim Gursoy was sent off for foul language and another Stanley player got his marching orders for another incident spotted by the referee’s assistant.
With Mehmetcik losing, Yalova are the only Turkish side remaining the competition.
Man-of-the-Match | Ahmet Cihanyandi This was tough one as everyone in a Yalova shirt played outstandingly well. However, Ahmet Cihanyandi edged it by taking his two chances and putting in a great all-round performance. Other players worth a mention include Zeki Ansal for tireless work in midfield and goalkeeper Ahmet Adalier for important saves at crucial moments.
