In a tightly fought cup tie, the Yellow Ones had the better of a goalless first half and thought they had taken the lead on 23 minutes. Hasan Djemal saw his shot saved and Ahmet Topal forced the ball home at the second attempt. As he reeled away to celebrate, and the assistant also ran towards the centre circle, the referee decided the Yalova striker was offside.
In the second half, Cosmos ’90 began to threaten from set pieces and found themselves a goal up on 63 minutes. The Yalova defence had problems clearing a long throw and the ball feel kindly for the Greek team’s attacker who made no mistake from close range. This spurred the home side on and none more so though substitute Huseyin Djemal who came on moments before the opening goal.
The new signing received a pass from 30 yards out and unleashed a powerful drive over the goalkeeper’s outstretched arm into the top corner. He followed up his 73rd minute equalizer with the eventual winner 6 minutes later. Yemi launched a long throw which was cleared to the edge of the box where Huseyin controlled and hammered home another left foot effort to secure Yalova’s safe passage into the semi-finals.
